Mr. Jeans Goes to Washington

The Southern Sierra Fly Fishers Club is also very concerned about the trash issue on the Kern. I’ve read the comments on this forum and concur with all of them. This is a huge problem and the possible solution will take a multitude of organizations working together in a join effort; US Forest Service, Kernville Chamber of Commerce, DFG, the 3 local fly clubs, SWCFFF, USDA, media, enforcement and education.

Guy Jeans has been sponsored by TU to Washington DC to inform our government of the problems on the Kern. I just received the following message from Guy:

Hi Guys,

Still in Washington DC... I met with Senator Diane Feinstein, and Senator Barbra Boxer and House of Representative Bob Costa reps today. The main topic was the trash on the Kern and more funding for the Forest Service and protection of our 3 native trout in the Southern Sierra- our state fish the Golden Trout, Kern River Rainbow and the Little Kern Golden Trout. The message was very well received. Also on discussion were the renewable energy bill and the funds generated be put back into places like the Kern River watershed. A very successful day. Meeting with Rep Kevin McCarthy tomorrow.

Guy will be an eloquent spokesman for the resource! It's a different world back there....I am sure he'll have stories.

This is great news. Hopefully some positive action will come of it.

Also hope he met with Rep. Jim Costa, and not Bob Costa. Bob might think the trash is from a lack of gun control laws. ;)
