Nano Floatant

At $33, plus shipping, I think it would be a relatively cost effective floatant. That's assuming 200 ml treats a lot of flies(should treat many dozens), and it actually works like in the video.

It would be better to be even more thorough on an important item like floatant. Brian, why don't you treat 2-3 dozen flies each for Darrin and me and send them to us. That way we can be your secondary testers. BTW, I will help you by specifying fly patterns and sizes that need testing.

I have a home made floatant recipe and it works better than any store bought stuff I have used.
2oz of parraffin wax
1 pint of naptha
Shave the paraffin wax and add to the Naptha. Shake and let the wax disolve in the mixture in a warm room on out in the sun.
There used to be some stuff out called, FlyAgra that would keep your flies up longer, that was very close to the above mixture. The real * sued them for using the name. Oh, I forgot one thing, Don't smoke while using this stuff!

May work great on dry flies, but then again maybe not!!! Let me know how it works out because if it does make dry flies completely waterproof, I'd buy some.

I'd be concerned that it may be toxic to the fish. I've heard the Naptha + Paraffin recipe was known to cause delayed suffocation of fish when they couldn't get water to their gill filaments.
It might be a little uncouth, but before putting it on flies I think testing it on some Guppies and Goldfish by applying it to some fish food might be in order. If they eat as much as you'd use on a fly, say 10 times in a week and don't go belly up, then use away.

There are more than a few, nanotech, super hydrophobic, coatings out there. Most are not affordable, or readily available. Ceracoat is.....but it has to be shipped from overseas. *IF* this is as effective as other nano treatments, it should waterproof your flies until they fall apart. I've spent countless hrs on local creeks catching dozens of dumb trout on dry flies. The only time I need to change a fly, is when they get slimmed to the point of not floating, or treatable with standard floatants. I can go through a 1/2 dozen plus Royal Wulffs or Adams. If I could permanently waterproof flies, I might be able to go the whole day using 1-2 flies.

So who's first? Not me, because I don't fish for trout much anymore. I also have a lifetime supply of powdered floatant.

Hydrophobics have been around for a while. Simms is using it in much of its rain gear. This sounds like a winner. Now if we can write them to place it in small containers that would be fantastic. Wouldn't this be a great item to put on your weight forward floating line!!!! Perfect for those dry fly days.
