Last & 1st fish of the Year?

Postby WadeK » January 2nd, 2013, 1:28 pm

My last fish of the year was a Jailbird from the cement Ditch near the 58 at ~4:15 PM 12/30/2012. It was 19 inches and fought well for it's size. I still haven't caught the 1st fish of this year, although I did wet a line in the ditch on 138 near Neenach on my way home from getting my kids for the week.
I was wondering who amongst us caught the last and 1st fish of the year? Reply with your respective last and 1st, please.

Tight Lines,
Wade

last fish of the year was a nice fat spotted bay bass from SD Bay taken on 12/26/12. First fish of the new year was taken this morning (1/2/13) from SD Bay. It was a smallish lizard fish. I did redeem myself and follwed him up with a nice mixture of smelt and spotties as the morning continued.

My last fish of 2012 was a 10" spotted bay bass from under the Coronado Bridge on 12/27. My first fish of 2013 was a 14" largemouth bass from a small farm pond on New Year's Day. Both fish were caught on the same fly; a chartreuse and white #4 clouser minnow.

My last fish of 2012 was an ugly, 6-8 lb rainbow, courtesy of the local hatchery. My first fish of 2013 was a spotted bass caught using conventional gear last weekend. Fly caught first fish was a pretty, 15 - 16" rainbow from the same river I caught that hatchery aberration. Also caught last weekend.

We keep missing each other. I too caught my 1st fish of the new year yesterday on the same water, I'm thinking. 26L x 16.75G, makes for a fat aberration. 3 other abberations to hand and 3 pull-outs/break offs for me and about the same for my buddy with a 17" wild fish to boot, made for a fun day with not too much precipitation on us, while we could see major pourage up the hill. :bananadance:

Edit to add: Had my license checked. :bananadance: DFG guy said he only found a father and son baiting and keeping 1 in the C&R and 7 no license tickets between the C&K and the lake. @ >$300 each I guess he paid for himself.

Last fish of the year was also caught under the Coronado Bridge on Dec. 24. It was a spotted bass around 10" and my first of the year was a 24" rainbow caught in the Kings River on Jan 5.
