8 Day fishing trip!

Postby Devinpreston » January 7th, 2013, 11:38 pm

I keep meaning to post a trip report from some of my trips but I have a 1 year old and that seems to take up most my time after work these days! Well me and my dad have always wanted to fish the trinity river for steelies and it worked out that we could take off the week of new years,so we took the family along with us. The first day we left around 230 pm from Glendora and we were hoping to get to Sacramento if we were lucky (1 year old in the car seat) well he ended up sleeping so we made it redding around 1130. The next morning we made it to douglas city, we stayed at indian creek lodge and it was nice for the price and right on the river. My parents had already been there for a day so I rigged up and my mom dropped me off where my dad was fishingand I fished half day with him for a 000 for me and dad. I expected that from what I have heard about this type of fishing. So the next day we had a hired a guide, his name is Andrew and he owns Confluence Outfitters http://confluenceoutfitters.com, he was a really knowledgable guide who knew this river very well. I ended up with five and my Dad ended up with seven Image Image Image Image Image
It was a great day with us getting some very nice sea run rainbows!!! we fished on our own the next day and I didnt get anything again and my dad got one half lber.
My son had fun playing in the snow by the lodge

we celebrated new years at the lodge

The next day we headed out from Douglas City to Reno where it was 15 degrees when we got to the Hotel at 3 pm. The Truckee had ice covering its banks but that was ok because we were there to fish for something else....
Lahontan cutthroat trout, so the next day we headed to Pyramid to fish from the tubes and it was a blistering cold 14 degrees when we got out of the truck. We fished windless bay because the wind was already up and we didnt want to get blown off the lake I ended up with 5 and my dad got six I got one that was about 4lbs and my dad got one that was an easy 8lbs, all the pictures are still on my go pro but this is my dads.

Then we were headed to Mammoth from Reno to fish for some big winter rainbows on the Upper O, when we got to mammoth we stopped off at the mammoth brewing co. to do a little beer tasting, this one was my favorite

It was actually a pretty good deal we tried all there beers for 9 dollars and that was plenty for me and the wife to share!
We ended up staying in Bishop because Mammoth was a mad house and we have lots of friends there. We heard itwas gonna be -15 on the upper O the next day so we decided to hit the lower O instead and we were very happy we did. I got about 25 browns in the 12 to 15 inch range and my dad got about the same before lunch!!!!!! My wife and Mom brought the baby and we had lunch together and my son got to touch a fish!

We ate at the bowling ally for dinner with some friends for our last night, this is my favorite restaurant in Bishop, if you havent had there prime rib you should go!!!
So that was 8 day and 1500 mile round trip I had a great time and cant wait to get out again and wet a line!!!
