CAMPING AROUND THE OWEN RIVER

Hi I am thinking of a a little trip up to the owens and am wondering about camping. Where are some good spots whites the policy of the area and how cold is it in early april?

The upper Owens near Mammoth or the lower Owens near Bishop? Neither one allows camping on/near the river, but there are campgrounds.

Pleasant Valley Reservoir Campground. $10 a night, right on the Lower.

I'm going up there on April 5-10. Last year it was hotter than crap and mosquitos too, both unexpected. Fishing was good for sure. No shade at PVR campground, but that's what you get. Really diverse area, rock climbing, petroglyphs, etc.

Curtis, whats that campground on the Upper, Browns? That was good if its open. PVR is hot as heck and no shade. Although if you go to the east side of the river, there are some spots nestled into the bushes.
BEWARE OF ROGUE RACCOONS! Those suckers will keep you up at night rummaging for anything. We caught one stealing our lantern once!

As an FYI, PVR is now credit/debit card only at the kiosk. There is no iron ranger anymore, must print and display ticket on dash of car.

Borrowing a EZ-UP shade shelter (10x10!!) from a friend's daughter. Hopefully it will provide some shade, and been looking at the sat view for spots providing some afternoon shade perhaps. Looks like it will be another scorcher this year too.
My truck was covered with muddy raccoon prints last year, but I kept the ice chest inside the truck, so no issues.

FYI- You oftentimes can see Otters and Beaver swimming through the PVR campground area.

And raccoons as big as german shepherds. By far the largest and most numerous raccoons I have ever seen.
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.
