Newb Intro - East side specials

Postby Transylwader » May 26th, 2015, 7:43 pm

Greetings earthlings.
I reside in the capital of NC and try every moment of the day to foil my bosses (Kinda like that twit Lumbergh) plans to keep me at work. No, I am not a trout bro, nor is fly fishing my life. It's just a really neat pasttime I can turn to when I need to get away from it all.

Here's some stuff from round Appalachia

Appalachia sure is a timeless place. Everything about it is unique. Oldest this oldest that. The story about the brookies quest for survival is quite something. I won't bore you with it, but I'll chuck in some dink *

Great intro and nice assortment of fishes. Really great seeing what's happening on the other side of this great country.

Wow! Beautiful pics! You know, for a newb and all. :P Seriously tho, love em. I am most envious of the gar and redfish. In that order. Gar are, in my opinion, one of the coolest looking fish around. Though I love brookies too (see pic -->).

Welcome aboard. Looking forward to more posts and pics. :D
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

Let me quess, the 1st few pics were the upper reaches of Nantahala River. My uncle lived in Franklin. In the late '60s I went down for a visit (from Pittsburgh) & he drove me along the river. The next day he dropped me off at the bottom & I hitchhiked up to the top, 2nd car picked me up, guy says "you're not from around here". I hiked back down to the bottom taking pictures along the way, beautiful area. When my father retired he moved to Chambersburg PA (next to Gettsburg) 5 minutes from Falling Springs creek, a lovely limestone creek. When I would visit I'd fly in & out of DC, while flying home 1 time I struck up a conversation with an elderly gentleman, he said he got up at 2AM to make the flight, he lived in Franklin NC - I told him my uncle's name & he said "Alan walks with a cane now, what happened" - Small World especially around Franklin.

Welcome

Reading the back story, I have a feeling that the Wandering Airstream will be parked along some of those waters in a short while. Both posts were epic. Welcome aboard.

I love to see the brookies in their native habitat. They were the first trout I caught on a fly rod. Welcome to the forum.
