The Fly Fishing Journal Part 2

Postby Fishfreak911 » October 20th, 2016, 11:34 pm

Our very own Katsfood wrote a seven page article and supplied the photography for the recent issue. The article is about carping and restoring the LA River near downtown LA. I had the pleasure of tagging along with him on a few of the outings from which he wrote the article, and was pleasantly surprised to see a copy of the magazine briefly up at the fly fishing fair in Bishop. Much to my surprise, some of the photographs were of me and caught moments I had forgotten about. These were pretty cool moments that you have while fly fishing but then kind of fall off a ledge and you forget about them. Like when we found an American flag buried in the muck. Daniel took it with him to give it a proper burial. Or that time when I had forgotten my fly rod (but not my reel) and we shared Daniel's rod/reel until I found a partially buried surf rod that somebody had used for catching carp one time. I snapped off the butt end, secured my fly reel to this broomstick, and subsequently landed a carp which barely bent the rod. (My cast was good for only about 20 feet) This particular fish and fight was captured in the article as well.

Here is Jim Burns take on it in his blog LA River flyfishing.com.

I haven't been able to find it anywhere Acorad, but it really is a beautiful layout. I'm going to buy one or two.
