Lodging Independence

Postby teejay » June 14th, 2022, 4:14 pm

Hey guys,
Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile. I haven’t done much fishing the past year. I’m currently doing the PCT from Mexico to Canada. I’m coming over Kearsarge Pass into Onion Valley where I’ll spend the night. Any recommendations for lodging in town for tomorrow night?
Best, Tom

Got a room at Ray’s Den in Independence. Small, older motor court motel, in Indy. Clean, $117 a night.
Highly recommend. Had a great sandwich at Port of Subs. Will check out Glen’s Taqueria later today.
All located on the 395. Back to trail tomorrow.

Awesome, have a great hike.

VVR can hook you up and has great steaks when you are coming off trail.

Thanks Gary. VVR is my next resupply point.
I’ll need a steak by then. Already lost 25 pounds on my trip.
Loading up on calories while in town: 1414 calories this morning for breakfast.
Only gig I now of where you can eat as much as you want and still loose weight.

The trip must have been in planning for awhile, but glad to see progress posted on this forum.
I hope the trip goes well and the trail is open from end to end.
Enjoy!

Thanks Ants,
I’ve wanted to do the trail after I first learned about it in the early eighties. Back then only a handful of people attempted the trail. After the book “Wild” and subsequent movie came out, the popularity of the trail exploded.
I first committed to attempt the through hike about a year ago. My wife, while supportive, thinks I’m a little crazy.
Perhaps she’s right. I’m packing a Tenkara Iwana that’ll but only had time to use it for 15 minutes at RockCreek, Seqouia NP. Caught 4 in about 15 minutes fishing. I missed several more because the rod is whippier than I’m used to. I passed many wonderful creeks in the past few days but no time to fish: gotta put those miles in. Hopefully, I can stay ahead of any fire closures. The current fire near Wrightwood has shut the trail down in the area.
Thanks for your support!

When will you be passing through Tuolumne? I have a permit from there 7/3 and maybe I could deliver you a care package or leave one in the Visitors Center's bear locker if the timing is right.

I should be there on 7/2. My resupply package is at the Toulumne Meadows Post Office. Apparently the campground is closed for renovations so you have to camp four miles away - either north or south- from the trailhead. I should be all set. Thanks though for your kind offer.
