Was getting pretty good, confident to the point that I expect each leader to be good enough to fish... And then cam Uni-thread. * you unithread. I'm 1 for 2, and the 1 is pretty marginal...back to the garage.

Go buy some Furled leader rings they work very well.

As soon as you figure out what to dress the uni-thread with for floatant please let me know. I tried everything on it and still couldn't get it to float the way I wanted it to. Next method may be water wings. That is one of the reasons I went to 2 lb. mono. Who knows maybe I wasn't using uni-thread. I didn't even look I just grabbed a spool of thread out of my tying desk .

Flotation
Furled leaders by nature of their design lend themselves to positive floatation. Let me explain. The thread or monofilament from which the leader is constructed is slightly heavier than water and by itself will not float once it is wet and the surface tension is broken. Taking a very close look at the actual form of the leader reveals grooves much like the grooves on a rope. If these grooves are filled with a lighter than water paste such as Mucilin or common paste floor wax, the effect is to increase the leaders volume and create a lighter than water leader. Water proofing the leader with any of the available water proofing products will not provide the same effect and is not recommended.

I think Stanberry has got it goin on, mucilin would have been my guess too. I think it's what they use on the braided leaders from Orvis that I'm so fond of. That stuff keeps those puppies floating for several outings before I need to consider putting something on it. I'm looking forward to being your test subject with these leaders Ray!

Red mucilin is what was recommended on the furled leader site too. Sounds like a trip to the store.

HA!!! DUH . I should have known that. Its what Mike StClair used on his silk lines. Geez I seem to have my head up my a lot lately. Too many projects and no brains. Bad combo.
