Yard Sale Find of the day

Postby WanderingBlues » March 13th, 2011, 7:27 pm

I found this 6x8 oil painting when I was out and about this morning. I should have been fishing, but I guess it all happens for a reason. The info on the back of the canvas puts it in the Kern River Gorge below Isabella, done plein aire, or painted and finished at the location. The white specks in the photo are actually the flash reflection from the varnish covering the paint.

They wanted $10.00. Got it for $7.00 and I'm pretty pleased with it. I'm a sucker for oil landscapes & this will add to my humble collection.

Nice find, Curtis. 8-)
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

It looks like a nice painting. I have a few plein aire paintings.

Cool canvas! The painters name looks like Douglas Miller? There used to be a judge in the Indio court by that name and he was a flyfisher. Might be one and the same.

In checking, I think it might be a guy down in Laguna Beach. He tries to do a painting a day. This has a date on it, along with some other sequence #'s that makes me think it's him. Plus, the style is very similar. If that's the case, it won't be the retirement fund, but was still a good purchase. Looks like he sells 6x8's for around $75.

Still, I like this one as I can practically see myself wading upstream on a late autumn day trying to convince a trout my dry fly is what he wants.
