November Meeting: Kern River with Guy Jeans

Guy Jeans will be our guest speaker this month and he will be discussing how to fish the Kern River. Guy is the owner/guide/instructor of The Kern River Fly Shop and has fished the Kern River for over 25 years. Guy will focus primarily on the 20 mile Upper Kern section above Lake Isabella with a brief explanation of the other opportunities available to those looking to hike or pack. He will detail the best times of the year to fish there and the various methods to deploy based on water flow and conditions. It’s a wonderful fishery and once you know when, where, and how to fish it you just might find yourself heading up to the West Side a little more often.

The meeting is Thursday, November 17th at 7:00pm at the Long Beach Casting Club Clubhouse.

Guy Jeans did a great job with his presentation last night. He was one of the better guest speakers the LBCC has had in a while. The narration and slide show of his pack trips into the Golden Trout Wilderness were inspiring. The upper Kern River area that he takes the fisherman to looks awesome. After seeing the beauty of that place and the fish, I would love to go on one of those trips someday. If you can get a chance to go to Marriotts tomorrow, Guy will do another presentation there. Berry and Cathy Beck will also be doing a presentation on outdoor photography.
