Fishing in Nebraska!

Postby adglife » May 7th, 2012, 7:48 pm

Hey y'all, good to be on with other avid fly fishermen and women!

I am also a member of Fly Anglers Online, Iowa Fly Fisher, Warm Water Fly Fishing and Fly Fish Calgary.

My blog.

Anyone else out there into warm water fly fishing?

Can't wait to do more cold water and try saltwater in the future!

Tight lines, everybody.

Welcome! Nebraska eh? I don't think I've seen anything from folk in your state.

Yeah, there are some warm water fishers here. For a lot of us, it's something we do while waiting for trout season or access or whatnot, but there are a few that do it more often that trout fishing. Got a good number of fishers that hit the salt too. Trout, salmon, bass, bluegill, crappie, carp, bonito, leopard shark, barred surf perch…whatever. It's all got its place.

Curious, what kind of trout fishing you have there? Any? I've very little idea of what it's like there.

Looking forward to your posts.

Darrin,

Trout fishing in my immediate vicinity is just stocked, and I haven't caught a single one. Now, if you were to go to northwestern Nebraska, you would hit the platte river, so I hear, which is the only natural trout habitat in the state. After that, the closest place to fish for stream trout is in northern Iowa.

As for what it's like here, it is hot, humid and nasty when warm and then absolutely, horribly cold when it's cold. Not Minnesota cold, but it's cold. I mainly fish for crappie, bluegill, bass, catfish and carp. Haven't landed a catfish on the fly yet.

Humid? Sounds awful. It's bad enough here in Fresno in the summers, but at least our humidity rarely goes above 40-50% in the hotter months.

I've only done a little warm water fly fishing. Going tomorrow afternoon though I think. Crappie, bass and 'gill. :D

Welcome aboard! I have family in the Omaha area and, as cities go, that's one pretty cool place. My dad just recently retired from UNO as Dean of the Exec MBA program and my sis is an art teacher in Bellevue.

Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome.

@Craig, I have no idea what SEO is, so someone please clue me in!

I am excited to get the ball rolling on upcoming fishing reports.

And just to clarify, I love warm and cold FF, anywhere really, I just live where it's warm for now. I love the bass!

Careful. In some fly fishing circles, "loving the bass" could be a punishable offense. Not here though. :D Welcome!
