Lotsa snow.....

Postby midger » February 7th, 2009, 7:33 am

Well the rain turned to snow about 8 PM on Friday. It is still snowing and we have 6-7 inches on the ground now with a projection for 18+ total from this storm. It rained all day yesterday, and we probably got at least an inch more before it turned to snow. I was off work so watched the Senate debate the bailout package on CSPAN while I tied flies. You'd think they'd join the 21st century and get electronic voting going so it wouldn't take so long for each amendment. Listening sure makes it easy to see why it takes so long to get anything out of that group. Almost all of them would be eligible for membership in BJAC. I just hope whatever they come up with works better than TARP. But I guess that isn't related to flyfishing, unless from the perspective that if you don't have a job you have to sell all your stuff so you can't flyfish..........

Anyway, the snow pack should help the streamflows immeasurably this spring. It will put fishing off for a week or so while the fish readapt to the colder water, but it's a good thing. Tie flies, build rods, catch a movie, drink beer, because "they'll be back".
"Should you cast your fly into a branch overhead or into a bush behind you, or miss a fish striking, or lose him,or slip into a hole up to your armpits-keep your temper; above all things don't swear, for he that swears will catch no fish."

Great News Mike!

Now if we can just get it to stick for a while, it will be even better!

I am west and a little lower then where Midger is and we have light snow down to about 4500 ft that didn't last the day, air temp was 31 at sunrise and low 40's most of the day so not cold enough to hold the lower elevation snow. Currently raining lightly, If you head up this way through the Cajon Pass, remember that its not the snow that usually causes the problem as much as the lack of visibility, and the regulars don't like slowing down, rain , snow, zero visibility they just keep barreling through there at 80 mph . I was over in the Devils Punch Bowl drainage today and the creeks were running high and wide all the way out to the desert floor, so at least the aguafier will get recharged some.
