Ghost town

Postby eleph » September 5th, 2024, 10:35 pm

Hello My name is Pete.d(eleph) I thought I might add a little on who I am and my past. Born in Boston MA. (Newton Hlds) 1959 April 20 (yup 4/20 ) I have fished all my life and never gave up the fly rod.. I fish every state this side of the Rockies, also TX. OK.AR,LA.Fla. When the family moved to 1000 oaks CA in 73 I was too young to discover the east sierra but when I did find it in 1976 I never turned around.. There is so much up in the sierras no one knows about or knows how to get to and that's O.K with me. It kinda sucks this sight turned in to a ghost town

Yep...it's been dead for almost the entire past year. I post a lot on the North American Fly Fishing Forum and I see a lot of guys who were frequent posters here - over there...

FYI, I have been going up to the Eastside since 1950 and spent time up in Bishop with my son and then my oldest daughter and grandson in Bridgeport, back in late June... this is my son and other grandson on the Madison above $3.00 Bridge in late July...they didn't have any fun at all:

PlanetTrout - I have lurked on the North American Fly Fishing Forum but not joined/signed-in. Do you endorse it? As for this forum, I am grateful to the friends I have made and things I have learned ... Incidentally, made it back to Tehipite this year with one of the guts (Matt) from the original crew that went ... oh gosh ... 18 years ago?

I too miss the "glory days" of this forum's past. As B said, always thankful for the friends I've connected with through this venue, but I think the "format" of traditional BB/Forums isn't as compelling for conversation as modern social platforms.

Couple that with guys (like me) who were a lot more active in other phases of life (before kids' activities and/or work travel gobbled up all the free time), and frankly just doing a lot more fishing, and without the inflows of new people the forum slowly languishes.

I think the folks that came after our core group probably scratch the fly fishing community itch with Facebook groups, Instagram, and reddit - moreso than traditional forums.
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

Pretty much agree with everything you said Ray and Bernard. Plus, let’s face it, it’s infinitely easier to post pics on other platforms. I met alot of people on this forum and am grateful for that.

Bernard,

I highly advocate your joining NAFFF. Of all the Fly Fishing Forums I have been a part of, it is probably the best and will continue to be very active for a long time...

EWR is getting healthy again. This was from yesterday - 11.09.2024:
